The Italians extracted a measure of revenge Sunday morning as the boys battled to a 3-2 win over Switzerland to finish 5th overall. Goals by Francisco Reda, Matteo Peca and GWG by Daniel Petreccia. Markus Rocci was solid between the pipes and took home Game MVP honours.

Azzurri Drop A Nailbitter

Tonight’s game was the best game the boys have played so far. They stayed disciplined and special teams was amazing scoring two powerplay goals. The boys played with heart. A complete game played as a group but in the end the USA came away with a 3-2 win.

U18's Drop to 1 & 3

It may have been their best performance 5 on 5. The team ran with grace and moved the ball very well but unfortunately penalties got the best of them giving up 3 PPG to Team Slovakia and could not recover making the final 4-0. Forward Jonathan Paglia was excellent and was named Game MVP. The boys now have to grind away and try to knock off the potent USA offence this evening 8pm (NDT)/630pm (EST). Go get'em boys!

Historic Day For The INBHF!

With a much better disciplined game our U18’s made history by winning the first game in program history. The boys in azzurri and white played an all around solid game defeating a feisty Great Britain team 2-0 and for the first time heard their anthem.

A great performance by Nicholas Gargano in goal and for that was named Game MVP. Ryan Schincariol was magnificent on defence. And at centre Brendan Sellan played a great two hundred foot game and also dominated the faceoff circle. Winning goal was scored by the Captain Nicholas Mauti.

Head of Player Development and Assistant Coach Justin Peca had this to say, ‘What most people forget when putting a program together there has to be process for progress. The Italian Ball Hockey Federation has excepted and bought into this idea and so has the National team and today they learned strength comes in numbers!”

A very special moment after the game as ISBHF President George Gortsos and CBHA International VP Elio Pascuzzo entered the dressing room and Congratulated the boys on the historic win!

The boys will be hard at work on Friday with two games. At 9am (NDT)/730am (EST) they face Slovakia and at 8pm (NDT)/630pm (EST) they will face one of the tournament favourites Team USA.

U18's Fall To 0-2 After Day One

The Under 18 National team fell 8-1 to Team Canada this evening and will want to forget about day one at the ISBHF World Junior Ball Hockey Championships. Stefan Cancian was the best Italian player on this night and was named Game MVP. The boys will have to dig deep on Thursday and try avenge two losses for their first win of the tournament. They will have a full days rest as Great Britain awaits them at 8pm local time.

Head Coach Paul Mauti had kind words for the Canadians and said, "They simply outclassed us. They played very well and had great ball movement." Mauti and the coaching staff will have to get back to the drawing board. This tournament is far from over.

U18's Drop The Opener

The ISBHF World Junior Championships started with a bang for our U18's as Daniel Petreccia scored 43 seconds into the opening game. We faced a perennial powerhouse in the Czech Repubic. The boys seemed to let the nerves settle by the end of the opening period but the Czech's would tie the contest at 1. Penalty trouble haunted the boys the rest of the way as the Czech's would score 5 power play goals en route to a 6-1 win.

General Manager Jamie Rocci was pleased with the effort. "It was a learning experience. Trust the Process" he says. Despite giving up 6 goals Markus Rocci was great between the pipes and was named Game MVP. The boys don't have much rest as they will face the heavily favoured Canadian team at 7pm local time 5:30pm (EST). Good luck boys!
